My Outlook view suddenly changed and I’m trying to get it back to the normal layout. The reading pane moved, some columns look different, and the Inbox no longer feels like the default Outlook view I was used to.
I found that Outlook has a simple View > Reset View option. If only the Inbox is affected, this seems like the first thing worth trying. You can also check View > Change View and select the Compact view if the message list looks completely different.
For a bigger problem affecting multiple folders, I came across the outlook.exe /cleanviews command. After closing Outlook, press Windows + R, enter the command, and launch Outlook. Just remember that it removes customized views, so any personal view settings will need to be recreated.
If the layout keeps becoming distorted even after resetting the views, I’d also investigate the PST file rather than repeatedly changing Outlook settings. DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool can be useful when corruption is involved because it can recover mailbox items and preserve the folder structure.
Has anyone else had Outlook randomly change its view like this? What actually fixed it for you?
