I recently noticed that my OneDrive storage was getting crowded even though I wasn’t adding a huge amount of new data. After checking a few folders, I found several copies of the same documents, photos, and videos. Some duplicates were created after syncing files between different devices, while others were probably uploaded more than once.

The difficult part is finding these files manually. Going through hundreds of folders and comparing filenames isn’t practical, especially when two identical files may have different names. I wanted a solution that could compare the actual content and help identify genuine duplicates before anything was removed.

While searching for options, I came across a OneDrive Duplicate File Finder  that is designed to scan OneDrive folders and group duplicate items. I liked the idea of reviewing the detected files before deleting them because cloud storage can contain important work files, and accidental deletion is something I definitely want to avoid.

Another useful requirement for me is support for different file formats. My OneDrive contains PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, images, videos, audio files, and ZIP archives. Using separate methods for each type would make the cleanup unnecessarily complicated.

I also found the SysInfo OneDrive Duplicate File Finder  during my research. According to its features, it can scan Personal and Business OneDrive accounts and provides options to select duplicate folders before performing a deeper scan. It also shows a storage summary, which could be helpful for understanding how much space is actually being occupied.

What I found particularly interesting is the choice between moving duplicates to the Bin and permanently deleting them. I would personally prefer moving them to the Bin first, at least until I’m certain that the correct files have been retained.
